With the legislative session now pulling into full swing it is vital that we have our voices heard. We need our lawmakers to pass common sense, conservative legislation which reflects the values of the Texas majority. So that our lawmakers hear us, Log Cabin Texas will be having our 2nd Lobby Day on Thursday February 12th. Please join us so that we can talk about the issues important to us including but not limited to:

  • LGBT Rights
  • Low Taxes
  • The Second Amendment
  • The Right to Privacy
  • Protecting Our Children and Parental Rights
  • Promoting the Texas Economy

The schedule will be as follows:

8:30 check in at Capitol Rotunda (Breakfast Provided)

9:00 Introductions and Instructions

9:30- 11:30 Meetings with Lawmakers

12:00 Lunch break (Lunch Provided)

12:30- 4 Meetings with Lawmakers

4:30-5 Closing

6- Happy Hour Location TBD

Lobby day is essential to promoting the rights of all Texans including LGBT Texans and our communities. Please be part of this occasion and join us in representing the core conservative values which make our state great.

This is a free event, but we ask that you RSVP so we have an accurate count of who will be attending.  This will help tremendously with coordination and planning.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Chris Busby at busby_christopher@yahoo.com.

LOBBY DAY FAQs

  • Do I need lobbying experience to participate in Lobby Day?

No you do not.  All participants, regardless of prior lobbying experience, will receive lobbying training at 9am, prior to their meetings with lawmakers.  Participants will also be divided into lobby teams, and each team will have at least 1 experienced lobbyist.

  • Do I need to schedule meetings with my State Representative?

No.  Log Cabin Republicans of Texas will schedule all necessary meetings and will let your Lobby Team know who they will meet with and when.   All you need to do is show up.

  • What do I do about food?

Breakfast and lunch will be provided to you.  If you have any special dietary needs, please contact Chris Busby at busby_christopher@yahoo.com.

  • I’m not familiar with the State Capitol.  How do I get around?

The State Capitol is large, but easy to navigate.  Everyone will receive a map of the Capitol to help them find their way to the appropriate legislative offices.

  • I want to participate, but I can’t make it all day.  Can I arrive late or leave early?

While we hope that everyone joins us all day, we understand if you can’t.  Please contact Chris Busby at busby_christopher@yahoo.com if you need to make special arrangements.

  • I’m not knowledgeable about the topics we wish to cover with lawmakers.  Can I really be of help?

Yes you can.  During the lobby training at 9am, you will receive a legislative agenda, complete with some points regarding each of our key issues for the 2015 Legislative Session.  By the time you meet with lawmakers, you will know enough about each issue to have a conversation about them.

  • How do I dress?

You’ll notice that most people at the Capitol dress business casual.  We encourage you to do so as well.  Make sure you wear comfortable shoes though.  You will be doing a lot of walking.

  • I have mobility issues.  Will I be able to get around the Capitol?

Yes.  The Capitol does have elevators and ramps that are accessible to all visitors.

  • Where do I park?

There is a visitor parking lot located at 1201 San Jacinto.  Parking is free for the first 2 hours and $1.00 for each half hour thereafter (max daily charge is $8.00).  For more information, please visit http://www.tspb.state.tx.us/SPB/Plan/Parking.htm
