Ratified Resolutions

LCR Houston and LCR Texas – Resolution 01

Whereas in 2003 the United States Supreme Court struck down Texas penal code 21.06, the Texas Homosexual Conduct Law.

Whereas the dicta of the decision also indicates that section 22.11 subsection b is likely unconstitutional because the age of consent law, known as the Romeo and Juliet law, affects opposite sex and same sex partners differently.

Whereas we as an organization support the privacy of sexual intimacy between consenting adults.

Whereas we as an organization believe that laws treating same sex or opposite sex partners differently should be amended to support full equality.

The Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas formally support repeal of penal code 21.06 the unconstitutional Homosexual Conduct Law.

Furthermore Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas formally support amending 21.11 to equalize the age of consent laws between heterosexual and homosexual partners.

Finally Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas oppose any future law or current law not covered here which seeks to criminalize private sexual conduct between same sex partners or seeks to treat same sex partners differently.

LCR Houston and LCR Texas – Resolution 02

Whereas in 2009 and 2010 the United States Congress and the President of the United States passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Whereas in 2012 the United States Supreme Court held that the majority of this Act was constitutional and enforceable.

Whereas we as an organization disagree with the President and Congress in their decision to pass this ill-advised law.

Whereas our organization supports expanding liberty and free-market solutions to our nation’s health care problems.

Whereas this act will lay billions of dollars in taxes on middle class Americans.

Whereas this act will bankrupt our federal and state governments.

The Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas formally urge the Log Cabin Republicans national organization to make the repeal of all or part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act a top priority for the 2013-2014 Congressional Session.

Furthermore the Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas support Governor Perry’s opposition to the expansion of Medicaid in Texas.

Finally the Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas urge the Republican Party on all levels to oppose further implementation of this law.

LCR Houston and LCR Texas – Resolution 03

Whereas in the State of Texas it is legal to fire somebody on the basis of his or her sexual orientation or gender identity.

Whereas scientific evidence heavily suggests that these categories are innate and immutable characteristics.

Whereas Texas citizens routinely face this type of discrimination.

The Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas formally urge the Log Cabin Republican national organization to make enactment of the Federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act a top priority for the 2013-2014 Congressional Session.

Furthermore Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas fully support a statewide Texas Employment non-discrimination act.

Finally Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas support implementing these same protections on the local levels of government.

LCR Houston and LCR Texas– Resolution 04

Whereas we as a nation are still reeling from a crippling economic downturn.

Whereas due to this economic downturn tax revenues are down considerably from normal expected levels.

Whereas taxing businesses and people hurts economic growth and therefore perpetuates a bad economic cycle.

Whereas the Texas state legislature made a conscious effort to balance its budget without raising taxes despite a large revenue gap in the last legislative session.

The Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas urge our legislators in Texas to again balance the budget without using the ill-advised method of raising taxes or fees.

Furthermore we support appropriating collected fees for their intended purpose and only their intended purpose, otherwise such fees need to cease to be collected.

LCR Houston and LCR Texas – Resolution 05

Whereas current Texas law does not recognize the validity of same gender marriages.

Whereas current Texas law does not grant any benefits to same gender couples on the state level.

Whereas this lack of recognition places many barriers before same gender couples that can cause significant financial and emotional burden.

The Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas formally endorse legislation that would seek to guarantee the ability of Texas citizens to designate by official registry who they would like to allow to visit them while in medical care.

Furthermore the Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas support the creation of a statewide registry for powers of attorney.

Finally we support any other bill which would seek to extend or reinforce these same rights through reciprocal beneficiary status, domestic partner registry, civil union, or marriage.

LCR Houston and LCR Texas– Resolution 06

Whereas in the state of Texas it is legally possible for two parents of the same gender to adopt children.

Whereas despite this legal status, the state of Texas refuses to inscribe both same gendered parents’ names on an amended birth certificate.

Whereas this status leaves same gendered couples in Texas without the proper documentation to care for their children.

The Log Cabin Republicans of Houston and the Log Cabin Republicans of Texas urge our legislators in Texas to pass a law allowing the names of both same gendered partners who are rearing a child to be placed on their child’s amended birth certificate.

Furthermore we support any other efforts to facilitate and ease the adoption and child rearing process for same gendered couples.
